Gotta Get You Back to You
During every Breathwork session that I support, I will watch the rise and fall of my client’s chest as they draw in the breath and then let it go. An opportunity for the breath to resource the body with the inhale, and fully surrender with a restorative exhale. When we’re able to allow that, it is so nourishing.
Every now and then, as I watch the breath inflate the lungs and fall away, it looks different. Transformative somehow. I can’t quite explain it, but it is quite special to witness. The way I see it, is it’s as if the client is bringing themselves back to life.
A resuscitation!
Sometimes the resuscitation is a part of themselves long hidden or protected. Sometimes a part they never knew existed, but their soul or spirit knows it is needed.
It revitalizes. It feels exciting and joyful, and so needed.
Other times it is more difficult to be with or accept. Something once hidden due to fear or survival, that needs to be witnessed, felt, integrated, or let go of in order to meet what is underneath.
But when I witness this (and feel this) in my clients, I am so moved.
Honoured, really, to be able to support it. Because I’ve experienced it many times myself over the years:
The death and rebirth of our selves.
Sometimes it’s incredibly scary.
But also necessary.
Essential, even if we want to keep growing and keep knowing who we truly are.
There can be resistance, often from the mind or our thoughts…
But the body knows.
And when it’s ready, it begins the unfolding.
Lately I’ve found myself walking alongside old versions of myself. A quiet reunion with old grief and loss, with forgotten parts, and a gentle nudge to connect with the ones waiting. It’s not quite a rebirth, but something has shifted. A stirring of memory, grief, and identity, reminding me of who I’ve always been beneath the layers.
Just two weeks ago, during a Breathwork session supported by a friend and colleague, I recall meeting and reconnecting with a part of myself that had been forgotten or hidden. The song Reindeer King by Tori Amos was playing, and the lyrics:
“Gotta get you back to you
Get you back to you
You gotta get you back to you
Get you back to you”
…were being sung. It was so perfect in that moment.
I’m so grateful for the magic that Breathwork has gifted me.
If you’re feeling the pull to reconnect with your own self in this way, I’d love to support you. You can reply to this email to chat, or book a session directly here:
